The growth of both unwanted facial and body hair is dependent on many factors including genetics, ethnicity, hormones and medical conditions.
Laser hair removal is one of the most efficient ways to reduce hair. At Main Street Cosmetic & Skin our lasers are the gold standard for hair removal. After the recommended course of treatment our patient see a dramatic decrease in hair growth.
How Does It Work?
At Main Street Cosmetic & Skin, our Nurses and Dermal Clinicians utilise the MPX Elite and the Excel V which have wavelengths of both 755nm and 1064nm. The laser works by targeting the pigment but cannot distinguish between pigment of the skin and that of the hair, therefore the purpose of dual wavelengths is to provide safe and precise treatment for all skin types.
The 755nm has a greater affinity for the skin’s pigment and will therefore work best for lighter complexions with brown or black hair. The 1064nm wavelength isn’t as absorbed by the skin’s pigment and is effective on darker skin types. The laser light is absorbed by the hair’s pigment, generating heat and permanently destroying the follicle.
After approximately four to eight treatment sessions, you will notice a significant reduction in hair. For the procedure to be the most effective, it’s best to target hairs when they are in their anagen growth cycle which is when the follicle begins to develop. This requires that you stop all forms of hair removal (apart from shaving or the use of depilatory creams) for approximately a month prior to commencing treatment.
Laser Hair Removal: Is It Worth It?
Although laser hair removal permanently removes the existing hair, the procedure itself is not always permanent. You may require occasional maintenance treatments in the years following due to your individual treatment response, hormonal and / or medication changes.
