Why Dermal Fillers?

page banner
Dermal fillers will have you looking and feeling better about your skin, as you handle the signs of ageing gracefully.

Real Results

After dermal filler treatment, you will notice a younger appearance with fewer lines and wrinkles and a healthy complexion which gives you a boost in confidence. Dermal fillers are more effective at treating deep wrinkles than other injectables and can correct volume loss and reshape the face.

Dermal fillers are a fantastic way to test the waters, and see what works for you while not incurring drastic side effects or severe downtime. The results of dermal filler treatments performed at Main Street Cosmetic and Skin speak for themselves.

Before and After

What do dermal fillers treat?

As we age, our bodies start to lose collagen. Lower levels of collagen cause loose skin that looks thinner as it loses its elasticity and starts to sag.

Dermal fillers can:

  • Increase volume to sagging skin
  • Make facial features more symmetrical
  • Plump up and pump up lips and cheeks (most popular)
  • Smooth and minimise wrinkles and creases in your face
  • Reduce signs of ageing
  • Minimise skin depressions and scars
  • Address fine lines, deep wrinkles or folds in the face
  • Address hollow areas below the eyes

There are a wide range of uses for dermal fillers depending on the result you’re seeking.

Lip enhancement using dermal fillers

The size, shape and volume of the lips can be enhanced by injecting dermal fillers in and around the lips. With age, lip volume naturally decreases which makes the skin surrounding the lips and the lips more prone to wrinkling.

Lip filler can be used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles on and around the lips as well as plump and volumise. Lip filler is always performed to enhance the lips so they are proportional to the rest of the face and a more natural result is achieved.

Generally lip filler treatment lasts 6 – 12 months. It is to be expected that some swelling may occur immediately after the treatment, and as will all injections, there is a small chance that you may bruise. Bruising and swelling usually only lasts a couple of days.

Dermal Fillers FAQs

Dermal fillers work by imitating a naturally occurring substance within your body – a sugar molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms. Its normal function is to bind water so it acts as a lubricant and shock absorber in movable parts of the body, such as joints. It is also important for the transport of nutrients and in regulating water balance in skin. By boosting your skin with this naturally occurring substance, dermal fillers revitalise and add facial volume to the area instantly. This diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and gives a natural softer look. The gel we use is very tissue-friendly and closely resembles that which exists in the body.
Results from a single treatment can be seen instantly and can last for up to 6 months, depending on the thickness of the product and a number of biological factors of an individual client. We use dermal filler injections to give a natural looking result that does not affect facial expression. Our face changes as we age, so dermal fillers allow you to control your looks subtly over time.
Dermal fillers can be used to help smooth away smile lines, add fullness to thin lips and shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, as well as hydrate and revitalise the skin. The most common areas treated are the nose to mouth lines (the nasolabial folds), the lips (adding volume and shape) and the cheeks. We do not treat the nose or temples with dermal filler.

One of the great advantages of dermal filler treatment is that the effects are long lasting but not permanent. Dermal filler products are biodegradable, which means they will naturally disappear in the body. The longevity of your filler can vary, depending on the brand, thickness and area treated. Duration also depends on many factors, such as the individual’s skin type, skin condition lifestyle and age. To ensure an optimal and long lasting result, a top-up treatment is recommended 6-12 months after your initial treatment. Our experienced doctors and registered nurse injectors will guide you on the appropriate time for your follow-up appointment.

This will really depend on the individual. The injections themselves feel like a slight pinch, and you may experience slight pressure or a ‘stinging’ sensation as the product is being injected. Depending on the area, your cosmetic injector may apply numbing cream to the area to be treated. Some of the fillers already contain local anaesthetic which also makes the treatment more tolerable.

You must be over 18 to receive a dermal filler treatment. Dermal fillers should not be used in or near areas where there is or has been skin disease, inflammation or skin related problems. Dermal fillers have not been tested in pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with medical conditions that lower the body’s immune response or individuals undergoing therapy that is immunosuppressive may be more prone to infection by a skin injection procedure. During your pre-treatment consultation, you should thoroughly discuss your medical history with your treating nurse or doctor.
