Excess Hair

Laser technology has transformed the industry, and this form of treatment is rapidly growing in popularity.

Our registered nurses, are expertly trained, and will individualise your hair removal treatment by skin colour, hair colour, hair thickness and age. You will be treated by a Cynosure, MPX ELITE. laser, regarded as the gold standard in hair laser removal . We offer you superior quality technology. The result being – Faster treatment times and fewer treatment times, because our laser is more effective than most. Rest assured you are in the best of hands coming to Main St Cosmetic Centre for all your hair removal treatments.

The laser works by using a light source to target and selectively heat the hair follicle, destroying the stem cells and preventing its future growth.

The laser is highly attracted to the melanin, or pigment in the hair. Hair has a larger amount of melanin than skin, so it attracts the laser energy more readily than skin. Therefore, as a rule, people with dark hair and light skin are easiest to treat. Laser hair removal works best on the hairs that are in their active growth phase. The active growth phase is every 4 – 6 weeks for the face and 6 – 8 weeks for the body.

In our Skin Centre, we use the MPX Elite with the wavelengths 755nm and 1064nm. The 755nm wavelength is more highly attracted to pigment, and is more suited to hair reduction on fairer skin types. The 1064nm wavelength is more suited for use on olive and darker skin types as it has a lesser degree of attraction to pigment, therefore giving a safer treatment to darker skin types.

For those who have very fine, dark, fluffy hair, especially to the face and neck, it is also an option to use the Medlite laser for treatment. The Medlite, rather than removing the hair completely, simply bleaches the hair so it is not as visible to the eye.
